Capcom, our most generous partner when it comes to handing out review copies for the GC, gave us the chance to get to know the third episode of the Dino Crisis Saga on the Xbox.
The spaceship "Ozymandius" that had been lost for 300 years has suddenly re-emerged. An intergalactic Marine group called SOAR (Special Operations And Reconnaissance), is dispatched to investigate and recover any possible survivors in the spaceship. When they approach the spaceship the vessel get's shot down though, catapulting all the members of the group into space. Luckily there are some that manage to get their jetpack working so they can manoeuver themselves towards the ship. There are only 2 survivors; Patrick and Sonya whose mission is to find out what's going on at the ship and stop it from returning to earth.
Well... Since the Dino Crisis series have always favored more action as a primary gameplay element, the upcoming Dino Crisis 3 is no exception. Your combat system consists out of several types of WASP's, these are drones that can be released on command to either protect you or attack enemies. Appart from these WASP's you still have your trustworthy Machinegun. Combine these weapons with a jetpack and you're in for some fastpaced action! Many people had hoped for an improved AI of the Dinosaurs in the game, but I'm afraid I have to disappoint you. The AI of the Dino's aren't any better than the ones of previous versions.
You play as Patrick, and Sonya's character is placed under the close protection of an NPC AI. By killing dinos, you earn points, with these points you can buy weapons and items in shops throughout the ship. The ship consists of multiple parts that can be shifted. In order to complete the game you'll have to change the formation of these parts so you can get to certain areas. An other new feature is that the dino's can teleport. So doors can't keep you safe from now on!
Capcom saved costs nor troubles to make a worthy edition of Dino Crisis as they have hired a director especially for the movies in the game. It needs not be said that these movies are very neatly done and are enjoyable to watch. The game was made for an audience of 16 years and up. It should provide you with some 15 hours of gameplay, so you're in for some Dino carnage!
