FIFA 06 on Xbox360: First impressions! (Xbox)
FIFA Soccer is still one of the most renowned EA-titles and it is undoubtetly a big success when it comes to salesfigures. A great example is FIFA Street with which EA tries to attract yet another type of sportsfans to the FIFA-franchise.
To support the launch of Microsoft's Xbox360 and because a year without a FIFA-title is like a Christmas without a christmastree, EA is fully readying FIFA 06.
We were given the opportunity to sneak a peek at several EA titles that are meant for Microsoft's nextgenconsole. SSo be sure tocheck back regularly for some more exciting previews.
And peeked we did! A few highdefinition plasmascreens were set up and together with the awsome graphical power of the Xbox360, they showed us images which we'd never seen before. (red. - no we're not talking about porn...). The visuals are extremely clear, there's no anti-aliasing involved and the colors look beautiful. You'd have to see it to believe it.
First we we're shown a little movie where some players demonstrated a few tackles and moves. The very realistic animations immediatly drew our attention, Along with the incredible amount of detail and the very lively audience, which is now, for the first time, completely in 3D. Or in any case, it looked to be.
After that we were shown a different movie in which the playerdetail was put in the foreground. This was utterly impressive. Ronaldhino for instance: the beads of sweat were dripping from his forehead. One could easily count the strings in the stitiching of the logo and even if eyebrows had an amazing amount of detail.
And not only Ronaldhino passed the revue, aside from him we were also able to look at the coach of the English national team and ofcourse, who could forget David Beckham. Both were magnificently brought to life and the resemblance was astounishing. This is truly the first step to fotorealism in sportsgames.
At the end the nice people over at EA showed us a movie in which a penalty was taken. Here, again, the amazing detail and animations made the crowd go wild in excitement. Unfortunatly that was the only gameplaymovie we were allowed to see. The game is due in 2006 which leaves plenty of work still to be done.
Conclusion: FIFA 06 looks very promising, but unfortunatly most of us can't afford to buy a highdefinitiontelevion so let's hope the game looks equally good on a normal tvset. As far as gameplay goes, EA Sports will have to surpass themselves if they are willing to keep up with Konami's Pro Evo Soccer.
