Mario has appeared already in dozens of games but Paper Mario 2 for the Gamecube is only his second paper appearance. For those that don't know what I'm talking about I'll first give you a piece of history.
Paper Mario was an RPG for the N64but since during the last years of this console, the Gamecube was already in sight, the game never really sold well which is a shame as it had a refreshing gameplay; Mario was as flat as a leaf, the game was véry colorful (as almost all Mario games) en had a good dose of humour. Add some decent gameplay and you've got one hell of a game.
I'll immediately tell you the biggest problem with Paper Mario 2 on the Nintendo Post E3 event: it's an RPG and an RPG demands a lot of time, something that isn't present at such an event. There's so much to see that you want to have played every game and RPG's are the first to be skipped. In the demo I could choose between three levels and in some automatic move I took the first one.
I had to fight some other creatures and immediately noticed that the battle-system has remained; you're facing your adversary on some sort of stage, you pick your item, and you can prolong or enhance your attack by pressing the A-button at the right time. I didn't expect much renewal in this part as there isn't much to renew. Something that is good has to stay good but of course some new items will be added.
Nintendo is promising more puzzle elements in this part, you'll probably already have heard of the folding like a kite. For those that know the game a bit: I've played the level with the bridge where I had to jump on a switch in the background and the bridge got folded out until it was completely recreated.
I soon left the Paper Mario 2 demo-pad, not because it was bad but because I had to go to the next game. PM2 looks good like its predecessor. There may be not so much enhancement (possible) but I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy it.
