When Ubi Soft decided to do a remake on Prince of Persia a lot of gamers had high expectations from the game and when the game was released, sales did pretty well and the game got good ratings all over.
Of course, Ubi Soft – as any publisher – doesn’t want to let go on a good license and as such we’ll be seeing a Prince of Persia 2 in the near future. Why the title Prince of Persia 2 while back in the old days a game with that name already has been released ? The answer is simple: Ubi Soft finds that the new games only have the name in common while the gameplay is completely different and thus the use of the same name isn’t really an issue as many gamers are too young to even remember the early games.

So, back to Prince of Persia 2. The Prince has grown up a bit, has done some weight lifting in the local gym and now looks like Lenny Kravitz on a bad hairday. This should make him look darker and stronger and intensify the character, making gamers feel more willing to play with him.

In the sequel, Ubi Soft wants to put the focus towards more action and higher dynamics. The changing of the prince’s appearance is one part of that but that’s not all. They’ve added several animations in fights so that you will be able to beat the crap out of your opponents even better than ever before. Also you’ll have more freedom in your actions and a prime example of that is in fights against boss monsters. You’ll be able to climb on some of them and start kicking their head while dodging their hands which will try to grab you and throw you away.
Interaction with the environment has also increased. One of the things players of the original asked was the possibility to cut the curtains that are hanging on the walls when you use them to go down. Of course the developers have listed to all of you and implemented this feature.

The major feature in this game will be the use of time. Not only will you be able to slow down time but also do other neat stuff like fast forward, rewind, etc etc. This should not only help you in battles against large amounts of enemies but also with keeping you from death. Yes, you’ve read that correctly: saving will only be necessary when you quite the game because if you’re fast enough, you can rewind the game to a point just before you died and continue from there, trying not to make the same mistake again. No more need to restart a level completely from your last save point, just rewind and you’re back in action.

The main question at this moment however, is whether you’ll have infinite use of time changes. The presentation we got to see showed the player could at any given moment play around with the time but it hasn’t been set yet whether this will remain in the final game. It may well be that the use of time will be restricted and depend on certain tasks.
Although it may look pretty cool to do with time whatever you want at any given moment, I’m sure that restricting that use would be a good things as it will require a more tactical approach from the player and increase the lifespan of the game.

Graphically, not only the main character has been upgraded. Monsters and opponents all have gotten a makeover and look a lot better than in the first game and so do the surroundings. The overall feeling is that you play a more mature game with more possibilities of interaction and freedom and that’s of course what we all like.

Prince of Persia 2 is looking mighty fine at this moment already and if the final game looks and feels the same as what we’ve seen you can be sure that it will again be a winner for Ubi Soft.
