Splinter Cell: Double Agent (Pc)
The fourth one of the series is one with some important changes. The action is now stressed instead of the stealth and the story can change with the choices you make.
Sam Fisher is now like 50 years old, but he still works as a so-called ‘Splinter Cell’. When he loses his daughter in a car accident he takes on an undercover mission. This is where the system of choices kicks in. To let the organisation you infiltrate believe that you're one of them, it could be you have to kill certain enemies, but this is against the moral code of Sam as an agent.
Killing or not killing influences the storyline, which can go different ways to result in one of the three possible endings. This is a remarkable charasteristic, because this is more something you might encounter in an adventure, not in an action game. This influencing of the storyline is interesting because of the replayability, but could also be a misser when the endings turn out to not differ that much from each other.
Simply said you choose during the game wether you're the good, the bad or somewhere in between. Will I shoot civilians too or not? Do I save that woman out of the burning bus or not? These are examples of dilemmas you might face in the game.
Splinter Cell is known as a stealth game, but this part aims for the action. Stealth can still be used to play out the game, but pure action is also a way to get through the game. The missions take place in different locations, the mission I got to see takes place in Kinshasa, where two rebel groups fight each other. Play them out against each other and no one will ever know you were there.
Officially Sam isn't an agent anymore, so some of his technological stuff won't be available anymore. This will in other words effect the gameplay too. Other renewed aspects of the game are the size and the freedom of the leves, which take less place in the dark. The A.I. has also undergone improvement and so have the graphics, everything is more detailed, for instance, the wrinkles Sam has can clearly be seen and sweat is sometimes dripping of his face.
Splinter Cell 4 experiments a little bit and has some new improvements, which hopefully will bring the game to yet again a higher level. The mission I got to see and got to try for a while, is in any case great and promises this game to be once more one of the best.
