Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the first time a Mario game takes place in space. This means Nintendo can still be original after all this years. For that reason alone they deserve an award!

To be honest, I don't play much lately. That's why I wanted to let Super Mario Galaxy go by quietly. Then again, that was also my plan with Paper Mario for Wii until Rian passed me his copy. Before I knew it, I was completely impressed all over again. So these days, you can find me flipping from one dimension to another pretty often.

One day at Nintendo's office and I'm certain Super Mario Galaxy will end up on my pile of games after all. As it happens, today I got the chance to preview the game. I had seen the newest creation with the funny plumber before but I couldn't figure out what was so special about it, except taking place in space.

Well, that's what I found out today! First of all, there's this weird effect associated with the gravity of the planets. It take a little getting used to the fact you don't fall off when you reach the end, you can walk on walls and you'll find yourself upside down quite often. This way, there are new possibilities and sometimes you just have to adjust the way you were thinking. In the beginning, you will notice that you often bow your head left or right or Mario just goes right when you expected left.

Second, Super Mario Galaxy is a perfect mix of everything in one. Of course you'll be walking around and jumping on enemies like normally. With the Wii-mote you can point at star bits falling from the sky or jumping out of the grass as you walk by to add them to your virtual treasure. You can fire these star bits again with B to feed hungry Luma or to just hit an enemy on the head. Shaking the Wii-mote makes you perform a spin attack. If you use this, you can break crystals (holding coins and star bits for example). With the same spin attack, you can also knock-out enemies. If you combine all this, you will find yourself moving, jumping, aiming and shaking at the same time. Who said Mario games were for kids?

Last but not least, there's a third reason. The colours, the cosiness, the playfulness (doesn't he look super cute in his little bee outfit?) of Super Mario Galaxy makes flying from one planet to another in your quest for Power Stars really fun. You'll collect star bits – 50 and you get another life! – and will be attacking bosses with a smile on your face. Even now, I found it difficult to give the Wii-mote back. Nearly previewed it and I'm already addicted! Did you wish anything else in a game?
