DLC...the word alone already gives me the creeps and then I'm not even thinking of developers who quickly put together a map pack or leave out some original game content to afterwards sell it at 15 euros. It's this generation's milk cow and thousands of gamers fall for it. Still there are companies that do it right at times. Ubisoft is one of those and they proove this with Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood – The Da Vinci Disappearance.
You can divide the pack in two parts, the singleplayer and the multiplayer and we'll start with the first which also explains the title of the DLC. You're again Ezio Auditore da Firenze and need to get through eight missions to help your friend, Leonardo Da Vinci. During the first missions you need to find Leonardo's assistant Salai and once you rescue him you return to Da Vinci. At his place, however, you find out he's gone missing and it's then up to Ezio to find his friend back in the remaining 7 missions. Those that are good with Assassin's Creed will be done with the extra missions in about two hours. Thanks to the sneaking around, fighting and necessary investigating in Rome you never get bored and will fly through the singleplayer in no time. This makes everything feel a bit short and you'll wonder whether there wasn't more that could have been added. The depth clearly isn't as in the original story and the ending could have used some additional punch.
Luckily Ubisoft also added some multiplayer fun in this downloadable package. Two completely new modes are present, Escort and Assassination. In the first you play with two teams of four players whereby one needs to guide AI-controlled VIPs to checkpoints that deliver you points. After the round the teams switch places. Without a doubt this is the game type that has managed to please me most and it's also more inviting for players that only recently bought the game and need to do with lower levels and less interesting perks.
Assassination is a simple deathmatch mode where everyone tries to kill everyone and the winner is the one with the highest score in 10 minutes. Of course it remains clear that the highest points go to kills that haven't been seen. Those that know every map by heart will also be pleased to know there's a new one, Alhambra, present which is inspired on a moslim palace in Spain. It has plenty of high walls and tight corridors that lead to a giant court. This gives the game a good balance so that all different weapons, like close combat swords or long range pistold are perfectly balanced.
Next to this there's also some additional multiplayer content with four new playable characters including the elegant Dama Rossa, the metal Kinght, the Marquis and the Parria. Those that didn't get the Codex Edition will be happy to know all extra content for that version is also present. From the Drachen Armour to the playable Harlequin and Officer... you miss nothing of those extras thanks to this package.
Although I'm no DLC fan, I really can't hold anything against this pack. For 10 euros it gives players some extra playing time in singleplayer and definitely manages to appeal to multiplayer fans. The new Escort mode is truly ingenious, the new map brings some variation and the only minor downpoint is that for those that don't play only, those 10 euros are still a bit expensive.
