Cloning Clyde is clearly the kind of game that Microsoft, and with thme a lot of gamers, would love to see more on Xbox Live Arcade. This time no cheap port or little inspired arcade classic but a very fun, relaxing and original game that will offer you quite some hours of fun for a very decent price.

NinjaBee, known from the also very enjoyable Outpost Kaloki X, has made an old-skool 2D scroller, but with very crazy humour and beautiful and simple 3D graphics that look cute but are still quite upstanding technically (like very sharp textures for instance).
Main character Clyde isn't the smartest guy around and for a few dollars he participates in an experiment at Dupliclone Inc. Of course things go terribly wrong and a few moments later he, and with him a couple of hundred clones, have to escape from the labs.

The 25 levels offer a similar set-up and goal (immediately the biggest downpoint of the game) despite there being a lot of variation in surroundings and side happenings. Each time you need to try to escape from the level and meanwhile collect Killer Ken action figures (achievements, remember?) and destroy robots. The controls are pretty tight and the animations are very funny, just like the rest of the game.

The gameplay primarily exists out of the classic platform stuff (jump, crawl, swing, fight, ...) but with a couple of good twists. The puzzles you need to solve together with your clones (which you can all contor) deliver a large attraction. Think of missions where you have to get your clones to stand on different buttons at the same time, where you need one to open a door to let the other pass, or situations where you have got get yourself catapulted by another clone to the higher platform, and so on.

The most fun aspect of these puzzles is without a doubt the clonecombinemachine! Place yourself on 1 dish and a sheep, frog, chicking or a piece of dynamite on the other and be surprised with the result. That way you get Frog-Clyde, Sheep-Clyde or Chicken-Clyde, each with their own special power that helps to progress the mission. The hilarious situations that come from that reminded me most of Worms. The way all these elements interact is without a doubt one of the best points on Ninjabees' game.

Who have quickly finished the singleplayer have more than one reason not to immediately erase the game. You can of course try to collect all the dolls and save all the clones, within certain "par"-times (achievements again), but you can also try out the multiplayer mode. You can start doing some co-op or fight each other through Xbox Live or even in your seat with up to four players.

Cloning Clyde is for me one of the best Xbox Live games you can get. For 800 Microsoft points you get a very well finished game, including multiplayer, that isn't only created well and offers a lot of fun qua gameplay, but also scores highly on atmosphere, humour and originality. A "must have" for those looking for some relaxing fun!
