We all know it already, Wii Fit doesn't help at all to get rid of those additional kilos, let alone make you more muscular, build your condition or as some people might say: seduce the girls by growing your body into a cathedral.
That EA Sports Active would succeed in all that may be reaching a bit too far, but EA's series is a lot more active and will make you sweat more than Nintendo's games. To give some more weight to that they've now released some sort of expansion annex sequel annex update with EA Sports Active: More Workouts for the Wii.The game offers more exercises, a new setting (vacation spas seem very popular on the Wii), better worked out exercises and most of all also the possibility to work those abs, something that wasn't possible with the original game. The sports character of this "game" - or should we just call it a fitness program - is underlined by the fact that we now also get a decent warmup, just like some stretching after all the hard work you've done. Your gym teacher would be proud of those additions, even if they are a bit boring. What would also make him proud is the fact that this game will make you go through hell, and this depending on your own fitness level. The obese 60 year old as well as the fit 20-something will get exercises for his or her abilities.
Those that have the original game already laying around will immediately feel at home. Again you need to bring out the resistance band, even if it doesn't get delivered with the game this time. Not really a problem as you can get a better one than the piece of junk that was given with EA Sports Activ. With tips and exercises you get encouraged by your personal coach, the biggest success factor of this game, while you get to shake, jump, run, duck, box and more with the Nunchuk and Remote (and all your limbs and up to now unknown groups of muscles). Everything is well explained so that you immediately know what you need to do, and no time is lost with idiotic warnings or unnecessary tips.
Unfortunate is the fact that there's still no possibility to choose a program yourself for the period you want. I wouldn't mind doing some three month program (and others maybe a 1 week tryout), but the only option is a calendar for six weeks, with adapted exercises. Handy are the recepies that help keep your diet under control and make you eat healthier. Those that want can therefore make sure that they get the right calories before burning them.
To make those love handles disappear like snow for the sun some new exercises are added. Especially the running and boxing has become a lot more fun with moving opponents (or a second person) and you can now also play some squash or waterski, competitive games that are quite entertaining if you manage to convince someone else to join in. As said before the abs now also get their own exercises, with a full gamma of possibilities including the feared lift-your-legs routines. Believe me when I say you'll quickly feel them!
There's not much more to say actually. EA Sports Active: More Workouts offers what the title promises. There are more exercises, they're better worked out and more fun, and the addition of warmup, stretch and ab workouts makes this package an almost complete fitness program. It's all but perfect, though, as it's still too unflexible and the Wii remains a bit too infantile qua registration possibilities, but getting a personal coach for the price of a game remains an interesting alternative for a fitness subscription.
