With FIFA 09 you can now build a career on your PSP. The Play as Pro mode let's you play as one player who you can improve by earning points. These are received by fulfilling the tasks given to you by your trainer, playing a good match, ... The more good games you play, the bigger your influence in the group. As new player you're hardly allowed to put on a big mouth, let alone play a leading part; you can only ask for a simple pass. In the end you get to do even the team management. This mode is very amusing and addictive as each game you want to play well and maybe even score.

Of course there are also other game types. Next to traditional ones like tournaments, seasons and a friendly match there's now also Soccer-IQ. Here you play a soccer game but with questions. Answer correctly you'll dribble along on the field until you finally reach to the goal and score after another correct answer. Soccer-IQ is a nice change from the soccer matches but you won't have hours of fun with it, except if you really like quizzes. There's little bad to be said about this mode but in the end you buy FIFA to play soccer.

The soccer game itself is very pleasant. Your co-players will do a nice action now and then and if you ask for the ball in your own career they'll quickly give it. They're of course not perfect though, they'll run in your way or decide not to run where you want them to go. The commentary is on the other hand a lot worse. The Dutch commentators tend to be either late or say something completely incorrect. If we can believe them, players hurt themselves at times nothing's going on. The sound during the matches isn't of top level either but it can pass.
