Already early in the morning your head is bursting. The kids need to go to school, getting at work in time is a hellish assignemt, bills need to get paid and so on... In the present society moments or peace and quiet are extremely rare and the gaming industry is now trying to use that for their own profit. Flower is a game that tries to bring you to inner peace and succeeds pretty good in that. Stop going out and let a fresh breath of air do its work.
Again developer ThatGameCompany, after fl0w, comes with an original concept that this time got called "Flower". The rise of games that next to pure entertainment also deliver a healthier and better way of life is strong. Games like Wii Fit and Brain Challenge sell like sweet candy and are acknowledged by many parents as useful passing of time. Flower is also such a game that does more than purely entertain. It takes you in a rush of colors and sounds to find your zen-moment.In Flower you control the wind by pressing a random button and change direction by using the motion sensors of your DualShock3. While floating you can touch other flowers so that more leaves will fly with you. Each time you touch these the environment which starts out cold and grey, become an atmospheric and colorful whole.
Flower in total has seven levels including cities, industrial areas and parks. It's impossible to die and there's no ranking or points system so frustration or drive to win is completely absent. The game is finished very quickly but thanks to the hidden secrets you'll love to play again.
Audiovisually it's A-OK with Flower. Hundreds of thousands pieces of grass are drawn on your screen and the full, colorful colors make for a calm atmosphere. The soundtrack delivers that tiny extra to the game so that you get to urge to walk around in the grass with a clear spirit.
Flower is innovative, abstract and relaxing. It's only available through the Playstation Store and costs €7,99 which is quite a lot for such a short experience. Those that are seeking peace, however, usually spend tons of money on Yoga or meditation lessons so it's a matter of perception. Flower is the best-selling PSN game in February and these numbers are for once not injust. It remains a unique experience of which few examples will be found in the current game offering.
