When we saw Meteos laying in the mailbox, my interest was immediately awakened by the bright colors on the cover. After having inspected the back, I was sure of it: this is a game for me! Tetris, Bejeweld, ... I'm an easy pray for this type of puzzle games!

Without reading the manual, I immediately started with this game as it looks quite self-explanatory, but little things that you find out along the way make sure you get to see "Annihilated" a lot quicker. Let's check that manual after all...

The thing is that you have to make groups of at least 3 similarly colored "Meteos", either vertical or horizontal so that these can be shot off. You can only move the blocks vertical and not horizontal (like in Bejeweld). In the meantime, of course more Meteos blocks are falling down.

Each Meteos represents an element like water, earth or air. If you've shot some off, you can use these in the option "fusion" to create planets, rare elements or items.

Each planet has its own specifications and certain elements, but also a different speed with which the meteos come down, how high they can be shot and specific colors for the blocks. One is more difficult than the other and then there's also the overall difficulty level that can be set.

First off, I started with "simple". Here you choose a planet and make combinations until you're finished. At the end you can see how many elements you've gathered.

Then there's the option "Star-Trip" in which you can choose 1 out of 3 missions in which you have to "fight" against 1, 2 or 3 hostile planets. This meaning that you have to survive longer than your virtual opponent during the launch of blocks.

A next mode is "Time-War" where you can choose to launch as many meteos as possible during 2 or 5 minutes, or get 100 or 1000 meteos explode in an as short period as possible.

Finally, there's "Deluge" in which you have to earn as many points possible before your planet explodes. This is in my opinion a lot like the "Simple" mode.

In all gametypes you can collect elements. Some levels are more fun than others, but in the end it all comes down to the same.

It's a very addictive game. Somewhere in between the options you can see how lang you've been playing it and for as far as I can see, I've spent almost half the time I've got it in my possession playing it.

During a game, lots of things are happening in the top screen of the DS, you can see how the planet effectively gets destroyed. Unfortunately, it's quite hard to look at the top while playing in the bottom screen so the use is rather limited. The graphics are very beautiful and varied though.

Also the music is very varied but after an hour I did turn off the sound as it started to irritate me.

All in all a very addictive successor of the well-known Tetris. It's also quite nice that the devs tried to put in a storyline that makes it even more interesting. Let's try to get that element again as then I can fuse another planet... you get the point :)
