The fact that you get three modern Metroid Prime games for the price of one Wii title should already be enough reason to run to the closest game shop. The reality, however, is that many gamers have let these very beautiful sci-fi games pass them by. For once it won't be because of the quality and value for money of the Metroid Prime Trilogy.
The 3D versions of this classic series still remain standing like a house. Even the first one, almost as old by now as my seven year old nephew, still amazes and enchants thanks to the unique setting, original gameplay and beautiful art direction. Discovering the world of Metroid Prime again, piece by piece, is still as magical as back in the days on the gamecube. Also all versions got a Wii-treatment: especially the fact that you can enjoy the graphics in widescreen is a real added value, even for the fans of the games that have them already.

Also Corruption remains unique. Where we used to stare ourselves blind on lacking graphics compared with the Xbox360 and PS3, we can now see how unique and crafted the makers put the world together, with a lot of love for their work. This way you get a second game that will offer a welcome variation to the world of shooters and action titles that's dominated by Space Marines and the colors brown and grey.

A bit in between, figuratively as well as literally, we find back Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Still a very enjoyable sequel but one that does feel like a sequel, including unnecessary focus on new mechanics and elements like the contrast between dark and light. Nonetheless again different, and often also better, than the mediocre crap that these days gets unleashed on the Wii all too often.

Next to the previously mentioned addition of widescreen, the second big innovation is the implementation of the Wii controls we already knew from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption to all titles. This decision will lead to a lot of discussion but we can at least say they work perfectly. Don't expect this to uplift the playability or immersion, though.
Those that want to know all details of the games might do best to read the original reviews of Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3, but those that prefer to play instead of reading text on a screen can rest easy and know that they'll have hours and hours of unique gameplay and absolute creative quality when buying this.
