Pirates of the Caribbean, everyone has already heard of the movies. This summer the second film of the series is out, named 'Dead Man's Chest'. To bring in some more money, a game was of course created.
A problem which often turns up with games of movies is the fact that you already know the story more or less when you have first played the game or first have seen the movie. In this game this is solved very simply: you get to see as much of a story as in the trailer. So the story ends quickly, but luckily something remains to keep you busy. Like a real pirate, Jack likes to collect treasures which are hidden throughout the levels. There's a difference between ordinary treasures and legendary treasures. The latter ones provide a bonus, like more power or defence for Jack.
It all takes place on the Caribbean islands, each having some 4 levels, from jungle to swamps and beeaches. The areas and the treasures they're hiding, are protected by rivalising pirates, the Britsh navy, natives, wild animals and other strange creatures.
Moving from one island to another is of course what your ship is fore and when sailing the wind plays an important role. The direction the wind is coming from can make you go faster or slow you down. Your stock of food decreases with time, so slowing down can cause your crew to mutiny. This wind system works good and adds something 'extra'. Food supplies can be taken in when visiting a shipyard. New parts to improve your ship can be found there too.
On your way enemy ships can be encountered, which really like to fight with you. With your cannons you first damage the ship and then you choose wether you finish it of or wether you enter the ship with Jack, who can steal some food, gold and of course the treasure. That treasure usually consists of some more gold and a new part for you ship. Once involved in battle, the opponents often seem to be cowards, because they keep circling around you, without attacking on their own, unless you come to present yourself.
Imagine you get beaten after all, in that case Jack ends op in prison and you have to help him escape. Once out, he gets back his ship plus a great part of his belongings. To prevent that from happening, there are 'Jolly Rogers' at your disposal. These are shots that have a special effect, like slowing down the ship of the enemy or lowering his defence.
The images are allright and the sound is fine too. You will for instance recognise the music of the movies.
A game of a movie isn't always that great because it has to be released along with the movie, but luckily this time this isn't the case. It isn't like the greatest game ever, but you're surely going to have fun with Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest..
