Training the brains and all kinds of abilities is almost a new genre in the world of games nowadays. This new addition trains the eyes.
Important to know is that this game only trains your visual abilities and not your actual sight. In other words: if you wear glasses, you'll still have to keep them after training. The abilities being tested are dynamic visual acuity (the ability to see moving objects sharply), peripheral vision, hand-eye co-ordination, momentary vision and eye movement. To find out how good your visual abilities already are, it is possible to take a test that will produce an average eye age. That score is then used to offer a suitable training and of course also to track your progress which can be followed exercise by exercise or day by day with the help of a collection of figures.
It is also possible to choose which exercises are included in today's training and which are not. There is a distinction between 'core training' and 'sports training'. The first category consists of exercises that focus on a specific ability and the second target an aspect of a certain sport, for instance smashing in volleyball. After each training it is possible to do a relaxation excercise, but there is only one available.
The training of these visual abilities is eventually meant to be applied in sports. Thus the more practical excercises focus on certain facets of different sports (soccer, football, boxing, basketball,...). It is always explained which abilities are being trained. This makes it more interesting and also motivates because the usefullness is immediatly clear.
In the beginning there are only a few exercises available and the more stamps you collect, the more exercises will be unlocked. This means that there is not much variation at first, which makes it not always that fun to do the play the game on a daily basis. Once there are more exercises, that disadvantage disappears but boredom sometimes still strikes, especially if you do not choose the what to play yourself.
At first sight the graphics really disappoint: the little people that accompany you seem to have walked away from the pixel age. The images seen during some sports exercises on the other hand are really nice. Music is limited to the happy tunes that seem typical for the genre.
For those who love the genre, Sight Training is certainly interesting, but others will probably not be so inclined to play this game for a long time.
