Sinstar was a huge sales hit, just like the Eye Toy. With over 1 million copies sold, the London Studios were rewarded for their highly innovative ideas. A sequel was bound to show up sooner or later and here we are, only a couple of months after the orginal release. Is Singstar Party a worthy addition to the franchise?

Well, I'll tell it to you straight. No, it isn't. It's just an add-on that can't hold a candle to Singstar.

Some rather superficial updates were made to the multiplayer component, mostly just new modes. There are "Keep it up", in which the game continues until someone sings out of tone, and "First to the post", where the first one to reach a high-score wins. Of course Battle and Duet are still present. I'd to refer to my Singstar-review for more info on the different modes. Furthermore, the Eye Toy features have been expanded, something the owners of the nifty little camera will surely appreciate. And for those of you who own Singstar, there is a possibility to import its 30 tracks into Party.

But what good are all the new features if the one thing important is subpar? Indeed, Singstar Party's main flaw is its clearly inferior tracklist. London Studios included many big popstars, such as Elvis, Elton John, The Spice Girls, Kylie Minogue, George Michael etc., but all of them have made better songs than the ones included here. The are some sporadic highlights, (I'm thinking of Bob Marley, Franz Ferdinand and The Police, for instance), but they are far too few to make up for all the others. You also may want to note the inclusion of several duets, a worthy addition for playing with others. That's also the only way Singstar Party should be played, because the amusing Career Mode from the original is nowhere to be seen. Bye bye singleplayer fun!

Alicia Keys - Fallin'
Ashford & Simpson - Solid
The Beautiful South - A little time
Bill Withers - Ain't no sunshine
Blu Cantrell - Hit 'em up style (Oops!)
Bob Marley - No woman, no cry
Buggles - Video killed the radio star
Busted - Year 3000
Cyndi Lauper - Girls just wanna have fun
Destiny's Child - Survivor
Dido - White flag
Duran Duran - Hungry like the wolf
Elton John & Kiki Dee - Don't go breaking my heart
Elvis - Way down
The Foundations - Build me a buttercup
Franz Ferdinand - Take me out
George Michael - Faith
Jamiroquai - Cosmic Girl
Javine - Real things
Kylie Minogue - I should be so lucky
Little Richard - Tutti Frutti
Maroon 5 - This love
Natasha Bedingfield - Single
Pink - Just like a pill
The Police - Every breath you take
Scissor Sisters - Take your mama
Sonny & Cher - I got you babe
Spandau Ballet - Gold
Spice Girls - Who do you think you are
Tiffany - I think we're alone now

Singstar Party is a sequel (or rather an add-on) that doesn't to the original any good. Although it still is a lot of fun to make yourself ridiculous in front of others, the singleplayer mode just isn't fun anymore due to the missing Career Mode. Buying Singstar Party with mics seems totally useless to me, because you might as well buy Singstar instead then. Only the Singstar-owners who don't mind shelling out some euros/pounds/dollars for 30 new songs should consider this game, but I'd only buy it to admire Javine's beautiful curves...

PRO

    - Still original
    - Fun with others

CON

    - No more career mode
    - Bad selection of tracks
