The X-th Sims expansion is available in stores for € 29,99. The question is of course whether it's worth its money. True Sims-fanatics already have multiple add-ons and will have certain expectations with this one. The Sims 2: Free Time might be an outsider here; there are no major changes or innovations
In the first place the few empty moments your Sims sometimes have get filled up, hence the name of the title. Your characters can now occupy themselves with one of more hobbies which can be linked to their work. You can for instance combine a dancing career with the hobby "music and dance". Practise at home and earn skill points and at the same time the interest for the hobby will rise and you'll have a better chance for a promotion. With every add-on belongs a new area and that's no different here. This time you can choose the Wish area where already six families live. A difference with previous parts is that there are now secrets to be discovered, some sort of hobby clubs. Your Sim gets access to one when he/she has developed enough interest. Some examples of hobbies are: good food, movies & literature, nature, working around the house, and games. When you want to develop a passion for nature you can collect animals in your garden or watch birds. When this increases he/she can go look for more info on the internet, read the nature chapter in the newspaper, blog about it, go hiking and lots more.
Like you didn't have enough problems with filled the previous wish meter, there's a new one added. When you get to a certain level here, by practising your favorite things, you earn wish points. With these you can choose bonusses that help your Sim with desires, needs and work. A special one that you can select is the secundary wish, this way your Sim has more than one wish in his life and you can fullfil other desires. The bonusses are quite useful to obtain all kinds of advantages. Raise your sallary, get more holidays or slow down certain needs... In the end you earn more time that you can spend on your hobby. It's important to exchange bonus points for promotions and wish fullfiller as otherwise you don't get any additional time to spend on your favorite occupations.
Now you can also get an EBV and this is eternal life, dear friend. You'll need to put a lot less effort to keep your friendship and you can greet him from afar, who wouldn't like that in real lie. Some other small innovations are: a rush, competitions and a radio station of choice. A rush is gotten when your Sim's enthusiasm for his hobby gets so big that he forgets all around him and only focuses on his favorite occupation. You can recognise it on the silver glow that suddenly appear around him and it's then up to you to get him back with his feet on the ground. Next to that there are competitions in which you can compete like a cooking or dancing contest. Last but not least you can create your own radio station by putting your favorite mp3s in a special folder and play them during the game. You're no longer obliged to hear those typical Sims-tunes, you just tune in to your own radio. In my opinion this is a very original and innovative addition to the game. And of course there's new items like clothing, furniture, wallpaper, etc etc etc...
All in all this add-on is quite alright. There are many small additions present where the radio station is easily the best one. Don't expect a completely renewed world or different perspective as then you might be in for a disappointment.
