E3 special: NCSoft

Special by Ace-
NCSoft is most known to gamers for Guild Wars and Guild Wars: Factions. This game has been in the top10 of most sold games for some time in several countries but that they have more to offer is something this publisher has proven once again at E3. We got to see several demos of upcoming games.

Dugeon Runners
Dungeon Runners is a MMORPG you'll be able to download for free ànd play! You'll be able to do almost anything without having to pay one penny. If you want to use more advanced items, you'll have the possibility to purchase these. This has as major advantage that you can play this game entirely free and if you really find it good, you can decide to pay for some extras. Contradictory to some other MMOG's, your profile won't be kept on one server, everytime you go online you can choose for any available one. Your character is completely adjustable and you can choose warrior, warlock or ranger as class. Another ace of this title is that the worlds constantly change whenever you tend to go back to them. The locations, enemies, items... are each time randomly built. Nothing will look the same twice. Also you can, once far enough in a level, return with teleports to avoid unnecessary running around.
Graphically things look pretty good. All nearby objects and enemies are detailed enough, only the horizon is a bit grey and the background sometimes isn't built up perfectly when walking through a world. Dungeon Runners is planned for the second half of this year.

Exteel
Just like Dungeon Runners, this game will be completely free and you'll be able to acquire extras if you want them.
In Exteel everything turns around futuristic, heavily armed robots, aka Mechs. In the beginning you can completely create your robot and afterwards you get to play on the server of your choice.
After a while you can have possession of multiple mechs and choose the most appropriate one for a certain type of fight or level. You can play the game in team (with alliances) or alone (survival mode)
We'll have to wait for the 4th quarter of this year before you'll be able to download and play it.

Soccer Fury
Soccer Fury is a third free title. It's a street soccer game where you won't only have to be good at soccer itself but also at giving some punches! There are no rules, no referee and don't expect mercy from your opponents.
Also here you can choose and change your characters to your likings. You get a huge offer in shoes, shirts, hair, face, ... you can even add an own logo for your team. The more you play, the more skillpoints you get. Through this, your character improves and you can create your own style.
Soccer Fury is planned for 2007. The exact date isn't set yet.

Tabula Rasa
In Tabula Rasa you'll always start with the same class. Through the choices you make during the game, you'll evolve into other classes and learn other capabilities. This has as advantage that you don't have to start by choosing a class before knowing what this means for the rest of the game. There are many standard missions available, but you can also choose for large battlefields where you can fight alone or choose to form teams.
To have communication as swift as possible, the game will support voice chat and of course also here teleports will be available so you don't need to run around too long to reach your destination.
If you need to make a choice somewhere and you really don't know which direction would be best, you can save the game and with this later on start again to check out another direction with a clone that has been made from your character. This clone can also be developed parallel to your main character.
Both the release date and price of the game aren't fixed yet.

NCSoft will be bringing some free games to the market the coming year and we can only be very happy with that. Still, it remains to be seen if they'll all be able to survive. Guild Wars has become so popular in such sort notice that there's constantly a lot of lag on NCSoft's (European) servers so hopefully they'll learn from this and not make the same mistake with these upcoming titles. Despite the fact that the free games would perfectly fit in the Linux-scene, there are no plans to release any of them on this OS.
