Fragland 2006 User GOTY Awards
2006 has come and gone and that of course means that we make lists of which games impressed us most over the last 12 months. But first we start with the games that impressed YOU over the same period!
A couple of days ago, we started up a couple of threads on our forum that gave our readers the opportunity to vote for best game of 2006 based on platform and the results are in. Here we go:
A couple of titles got several votes but only one managed to stand out with head and shoulders above all the rest: Company of Heroes. I'm sure nobody can deny that this game was far the best strategy title we've seen the last year and it seems our visitors agreed enough to make it the number one PC game of 2006.
Runners-up: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Half-Life: Episode 1
Xbox360 owners got quite a lot of interesting titles to check out in 2006 but the most hyped of them all was without a doubt Gears of War and it seems the hype was more than enough to make it your GOTY.
Runners-up: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Burnout Revenge, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
Nintendo launched their Wii console at the end of 2006 in Europe and there was one title every fan was already looking forward to for a long time: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I guess it doesn't come as a surprise that it got your top spot.
Runner-up: Wii Sports
It was a slow year for Xbox and that also reflected in the amount of titles we deemed suitable for a GOTY nomination. The ultimate winner (more due to lack of competition than actual being GOTY-material) was Pro Evolution Soccer 5
Runner-up: Fight Night Round 3
Quite a lot of good games were released on PS2 in 2006 and that it was hard to find one that stood out from the crowd also reflects in your choices as we don't have one sole winner. Both Shadow of the Colossus and Guitar Hero 2 managed to get an equal amount of votes and therefore we have a double winner this year!
Runners-up: Black, Bully (aka Canis Canem Edit) and Metal Gear Solid: Subsistence
Sony's handheld finally got up to speed a bit in 2006 and this resulted in a number of games being nominated for GOTY with as ultimate winner Daxter. I guess people still love the little critter :)
Runners-up: Killzone: Liberation and Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
Although Nintendo's DS handheld is doing a terrific job in sales, I personally found that 2006 didn't have all too many great titles. Still, there was one that stood out with head and shoulders and you'll probably not be surprised when I tell you that our visitors agreed with me and gave New Super Mario Bros their GOTY award
Runner-up: Metroid Prime: Hunters
That's it for this year's Fragland User GOTY Awards. You may wonder why neither PS3 nor GBA are listed but the first isn't released in Europe yet (and we're based in Europe) and GBA... well, it's almost dead so we didn't bother :)
