Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

After his mother died, John Connor (Nick Stahl) has gone wandering around without a specific goal. The burden of having to lead the resistance after almost all of humanity has been killed is a heavy one and barely tolerable. When the machines in the future notice they can’t get to John, they decide to send the extremely deadly T-X (Kristanna Loken) back to the past with as goal to kill all future lieutenants of John. The Restistance is aware of these plans and decides to send back again a T800 (Schwarzenegger of course) to protect them. Meanwhile, John has encountered a former girlfriend just when the T-X arrives to kill her…

Sound and Vision:
Overall we get excellent image quality but the disc doesn’t manage to uphold it all the time. Some scenes lack a bit of detail which makes that if we were to give scores, this release wouldn’t get “perfect”.

The sound on the other hand has a very good TrueHD track that really contains a tremendous amount of detail while all channels are used at full force when the action is happening. Great stuff!

Extras:
The extras are mostly the same as on the DVD with the exception that the “T3 Visual Effects Lab” and “Create Your Own Visual Effects” have disappeared while “TerminatorVision” has been added. This, however, is just a picture-in-picture feature where we get to see the special effects features that have disappeared get rehashed. Not really anything someone who already has the DVD will be looking forward to.

Conclusion:
Terminator 3 remains a fun movie despite James Cameron not having been on board to take on the role of director. Although not as good as T2, it’s a good go-between while waiting for episode 4.

This Blu-ray release brings enhanced image and sound quality but those that have the DVD already should really wonder whether or not to buy this one. The extras are the same as on the previous DVD release and as that already came with good technical quality one can wonder whether a bit better image and sound justifies spending more money on this release.
