Valve working on next Source Engine
Valvetime has had one of their guys dig into the code of the Source Filmmaker script files and that has resulted in some pretty interesting news: there are plenty of references showing that Valve is working on the next iteration of their critically acclaimed Source Engine.
In a file called “vproj.py”, they found the following:
Line 1387:
”’Return an str with the current engine version.
If key doesn’t doesn’t exist, assume ‘Source’, otherwise invalid — assume next-gen ‘Source 2′.”’
Some more digging into the Source Filmmaker files discovered also several new “Source 2 tools” icons that are apparently present in the SFM files.
And in case you’re still wondering whether this story might not be legit, Valve’s site has the following mentioned regarding their Source engine:
We don’t like to brag, but Source is considered the most flexible, comprehensive, and powerful game development environment out there. And it’s about to get even better.
I guess that’s enough “proof” they’re working on a new (or updated) engine, no? So the only question now is: When will we be hearing about Half-Life 3 again???
