Wolfenstein returns once again
Wolfenstein, id Software’s game that marked the beginning of the first person shooter genre, has had quite some sequels and spin-offs over the years, one being better than the other.
After Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, the multiplayer titel that eventually was released for free, things have gotten quite silent regarding the franchise but now Bethesda has announced they want to bring new life to the classic and this in cooperation with MachineGames, a studio from Sweden that exists of former employees from Starbreeze Studios (The Darkness, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay).
In Wolfenstein: The New Order we of course play the hero B.J. Blazkowicz, but in an alternative universe where the Nazis won the second World War. We’re in 1960 and Blazkowicz needs to lead an almost impossible counteroffensive to rid the world from Nazi oppression.
The game runs on the id Tech 5 engine and is expected in the 4th quarter of this year on PC, PS3, X360 and “next-gen consoles”. According to the latest messages, there won’t be any multiplayer mode present.
